HR moves to the Koren Building

The Office of Human Resource Management has moved to the Fr. Henry J. Koren, C.S.Sp. Building located at 718 Fifth Avenue.

The Koren Building's first floor is open to the public during the University's regular business hours, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Adjusted Medical DUFLEX Price Tags

As you may recall, this past spring the University community was notified that the July 1, 2009 medical benefits price tags would be deferred until further notice. In light of the recent announcement regarding salary increases, this is to advise you that the medical price tags will go into effect the pay period beginning September 7, 2009 and will be reflected in the pay of September 25, 2009. EAP Expands Services: Adds Financial and Legal Assistance

The Office of Human Resource Management is pleased to announce the addition of legal and financial services for all eligible full-time employees. This new benefit is an added value through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This new service will help you manage the complexities of your unique legal and financial situations. The best news is that it is completely free to you.

Seasoned legal and financial professionals are available to provide legal and financial consultation.

You will receive:

• No cost 30 – 60 minute telephonic consultation on an unlimited number of separate legal* and financial issues. For services beyond the initial telephonic consultation, employees will receive a preferred discount rate of 25% off provider’s normal hourly fee. *Matters involving disputes or actions between employees or with the University are excluded from this service. Duquesne cannot be held responsible for any legal or financial advice provided.

• Access to an on-line financial library that provides over forty-five financial calculators including a savings goal calculator, retirement planning calculator, and home or car affordability calculator.

• Access to an on-line legal library with hundreds of articles on a wide variety of topics, written by legal professionals. Thousands of sample legal forms to cover most legal situations.

Federal Minimum Wage Increase, effective July 24, 2009:

Effective July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage increased to $7.25 per hour. This change reflects the third and final federal minimum wage increase as amended under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The University is required, under the FLSA, to pay at least the federal minimum wage to hourly non-exempt employees for all hours worked.

Duquesne University’s living wage for non-student workers remains set at $9.50 per hour.

The City of Pittsurgh announced a change to the Emergency and Municipal Services Tax. Under Pensylvania Act 7, the tax will be changed to the Local Services Tax.

Duquesne Partners with HigherEdJobs.com

Duquesne University recently entered into a contract agreement with the Online recruitment web site HigherEdJobs.com. The contract allows us to electronically post unlimited faculty and administrative staff search announcements to the web site -one of the largest job databases focused exclusively on college and university positions.

Currently, the site receives nearly 900,000 hits per month and lists on average 10,000 open positions from a variety of colleges and universities. While under the agreement, hiring managers will also have access to the web site’s resume database – a collection of nearly 50,000 active resumes and vitae.
