*Note: Due to confidentiality issues most departments will not allow candidates to work in the same department as the student's major. For example, a Pharmacy major may not work in an office type position within the Pharmacy Department. Therefore, candidates seeking clerical opportunities should choose department not associated with their academic major.

Administration/Managerial

Nature of Work: Plan and administer programs, provide management and staff support, supervise other student aides, design promotional materials and write reports.

Skills: Supervisory and leadership ability, excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates must be responsible, courteous, mature and able maintain confidentiality.

Office Assistant I

Nature of Work: Answer phones, file, greet students and the public, operate business equipment including copy machines, personal computers, and computer terminals, run errands.

Skills: Experience with typing and word processing helpful. Candidates are courteous with pleasant phone voices and able to maintain confidentiality. Candidates may be required to dress appropriately for an office environment.

Office Assistant II

Nature of Work: Answer phones, greet students and public, run errands, operate business equipment including copy machines and personal computers.
Skills: Intermediate level clerical position requiring typing speed of 40 wpm. Experience and training with typing, word processing and other computer software applications. Preferred candidates are courteous with pleasant phone voices and able to maintain confidentiality. Candidates may be required to dress appropriately for an office environment.

Office Assistant III

Nature of Work: Higher level clerical position requiring previous office experience. Candidates provide support to management and office staff.

Skills:Experience and training with typing, word processing and other computer software applications preferred Candidates are courteous with pleasant phone voices and able to maintain confidentiality. Candidate must responsible, dependable and mature. Candidates may be required to dress appropriately for an office environment.

Communications - Print/Graphics

Nature of Work: Design and execute promotional materials, write letters, reports, news stories, photographic and darkroom support. Additional duties may include general office support and light typing.

Skills: Excellent written and oral communications skills, artistic ability and/or experience in graphic design/layout, camera/darkroom skills, and/or mechanical ability.

Communications -Production

Nature of Work: Use and maintain sound, recording and lighting equipment.

Skills: Mechanical, technical ability and/or prior experience or course work on production or production equipment. Experience with Audio/Visual Equipment.

Communications - Promotional

Nature of Work: To conduct campus tours, promote the interest of the University through recruitment and telefund activities.

Skills: Sales/promotional ability. Excellent communications skills. Additional duties may include general office support and light typing.

Day Care

Nature of Work: To assist in planning and implementing daily activities of children and greet children upon arrival and secure their possessions.

Skills: Knowledge of PA State child care licensing, thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university with a major in early childhood development, special education, elementary education or human services field.

Distribution Delivery

Nature of Work: Sort and deliver mail, supplies, and/or equipment to University Offices. Maintain inventory, collect data and operate business equipment. Additional duties may include general office support, answer phones, greet students and public.

Skills: Must be able to lift 20 pounds or more, detail oriented, courteous and able to maintain confidentiality.

Recreation

Nature of Work: Give support to University Recreation Programs. Supervise facilities and equipment in the recreation and gym areas. Duties may include intramural refereeing, maintaining security and distributing equipment.

Skills: Candidates should be mature, responsible, and possess leadership and supervisory abilities.

Scientific - Lab

Nature of Work: Provide general scientific research and/or pharmaceutical functions. General housekeeping and maintenance of laboratory animals.

Skills: Candidates should be at least sophomore level science, pharmacy or nursing major and possess laboratory skills. Candidates should be mature and responsible.

Scientific/Technical - Computing

Nature of Work: Support to the University's administrative and instructional computing functions. Employment may occur in academic departments to operate computer terminals and instruct others in the use of computer lab equipment. Others work in administrative offices in data control jobs which may include programming functions and/or set-up of computer equipment in the various offices.

Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Basic familiarity with computer hardware and software.

Security

Nature of Work: Primary responsibility is to maintain building security. Duties include answering phones, checking identification of residents and guests.

Skills: Candidates must be mature, responsible, self-confident and show good judgment.

Therapeutical

Nature of Work: To assist with setup, development, implementation, and follow-up of therapeutical programs and activities in off-campus organizations.

Skills: Must be a mature, outgoing, responsible, and caring individual with high creativity and excellent communication skills. Preferably seeking Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy majors.

Water Safety

Nature of Work: Pool side responsibilities include life guarding and water chemistry tests.

Skills: Candidates must hold a valid Red Cross Life guarding Certificate. Candidates must be mature and responsible with leadership and/or supervisory skills.

Tutorial

Nature of Work: To provide academic coaching to students. Representative off-campus organizations include PACT, and the St. Clair Village Project. Tutoring activities also encompass Duquesne University's commitment to "America Reads." "America Reads" is a public commitment to helping children in grades K through 3 read. Many positions are available through the area school districts.

Skills: Candidates must be mature with the ability to interact with various age groups ranging from elementary to college age students. A proficiency in a given subject with advanced course work may be required for some positions.
