What is College Work-Study?

Federal College Work-Study is a need-based financial aid award available to U.S. Citizens. The Financial Aid Office is responsible for determining eligibility of applicants. Students eligible to participate in the Federal College Work-Study Program may apply for on and off-campus jobs.

Applications are sent from the Student Employment Office upon the student's formal acceptance of the financial aid package. The Work-Study award will appear on a student's tuition remittance form. It will not appear as a reduction of tuition. Students are to earn the award amount through working in the College Work-Study program.

How do I get a Work-Study Job?

The Student Employment Office is your contact for job placement.

Students are contacted by the Office of Human Resources Management upon notification from the Financial Aid Office. Students can learn of current openings by calling the office or (412) 396-6053 visiting 201 Fisher Hall. Student job openings are also posted to the Internet at: http://www.duq.edu/administration/hr/job/sepjobs.html

College Work-Study jobs are 13 hours per week during the Academic Year. Openings occur throughout the academic year. Periodic checks and/or visits to the office are encouraged. Placement is not guaranteed; it is contingent upon available jobs.

Once I have a Work-Study job, how do I apply the money I earn towards my tuition?

Students receive a paycheck for hours worked for a biweekly period. Payments are made according to the University's biweekly pay schedule. Paychecks can be directly deposited to a personal checking or savings account. This is arranged through the Payroll Office, 204 Administration Building. At the discretion of the student, earnings can be applied to tuition and or living expenses. How this is handled is left to the individual. Tuition payments can be made directly to the Cashier's Office via a personal check.

How do I return to the same Work-Study position for the next Academic Year?

Students must reapply for Work-Study through the Financial Aid Office each academic year and summer period.

Each April a survey is sent to all student aides. The survey is returned to the Student Employment Office indicating intentions for the next academic/summer semester. Return to a prior position is contingent upon a work-study award.

The same authorization and application process applies for the summer as for the academic year. The Student Employment Office will confirm application and/or appointment of student aides.
