About Student Employment
The Student Employment Program at Duquesne University
is committed to providing a strong career development
component which is constructive and, wherever
possible, reflective of students’ interests
and career goals. Student employees work in
a variety of jobs both on and off campus. Responsibilities
range from working in science labs, to performing
clerical tasks in University academic and business
offices, to working at the Power Recreation
Center or with disabled individuals at local
non-profit organizations. While they work for
Duquesne University, our student aides gain
more than extra income – they gain valuable
work experience that supplements the outstanding
education they receive in the classroom.
Work Study Award
Federal College Work-Study is a need-based
financial aid award available to U.S. Citizens.
The Financial
Aid Office is responsible for determining
eligibility of applicants. Students eligible
to participate in the Federal College Work-Study
Program may apply for on and off-campus jobs.
Students are to earn the award amount they receive
through working in the College Work-Study program.
Application Process
> College Work-Study jobs are thirteen hours
per week during the Academic Year. Eligible
students may work up to 35 hours per week during
the summer.
> Students apply
online for jobs through Work Study Program
and then come to the Human Resources Office
to arrange interviews for available positions.
> Interviewing for jobs allows students to
gain experience that will prepare them for a
job search when they begin their careers.
> Placement in a work study position is not
guaranteed; it is contingent upon available
jobs. However, students who proactively pursue
interview opportunities are typically successful
in finding the right position for them.
> A wide variety
of positions are available through the Work
Study Program.
Payment
Every other Friday, student employees receive
a paycheck for hours worked for a biweekly period.
At the discretion of the student, earnings can
be applied to tuition and or living expenses.
