The Department of Political Science at Duquesne University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor position in comparative politics, preferably with a focus on the Middle East and/or Europe. Candidates must be able to teach courses in a range of settings from undergraduate introductory to Masters level courses in Duquesne’s Graduate Center for Social and Public Policy. Candidates will be expected to continue the Department’s tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship.

GLOBAL ETHNIC / POSTCOLONIAL LITERATURES

The English Department at Duquesne University seeks a specialist in Anglophone global ethnic / postcolonial literatures, especially African literatures, at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), to begin in the fall of 2010. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach a range of courses, including specialized graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in global ethnic / postcolonial literatures as well as courses to satisfy the University Core Curriculum area requirements of “global diversity” and/or “social justice” and to contribute to the new Africana Studies Program. The ability to develop courses at all levels in secondary areas of interest is also desirable. Scholarship or the strong promise of scholarship is required for consideration. Excellent teaching and the publication of peer-reviewed research is necessary for both tenure and promotion. Successful candidates must be able and willing to teach and work with MA and PhD students. The typical teaching load in the department is 5 courses per year. The PhD degree is highly preferred, but exceptional ABD’s who have made significant progress on their dissertations may be considered. Completion of the degree is required for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach a range of courses, including specialized graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in 17th Century and Early Modern British literature and both parts of the undergraduate British Literature Survey. The ability to develop courses at all levels in secondary areas of interest is desirable. Scholarship or the strong promise of scholarship is required for consideration. Excellent teaching and the publication of peer-reviewed research is necessary for both tenure and promotion. Successful candidates must be able and willing to teach and work with MA and PhD students. The typical teaching load in the department is 5 courses per year. The Center for Healthcare Ethics offers doctoral and master’s degree programs that engage the Catholic tradition. The Center Director provides administrative and academic leadership and supervises the programs’ clinical rotations.
